Main street Morris has been the home of a consignment store for at least 60 years. Locals will remember Second Hand Rose and most recently 2nd Chance Consignment. When Andrea Dosdall heard 2nd Chance Consignment was at risk of closing permanently, she was intrigued. After years of helping other businesses grow in the Morris community, Andrea’s eye for good business strategies and heart for all things local, made 2nd Chance a great business for her and her family. She recognized the beauty of coming into an existing business where she could tweak the branding, rethink the consignment process, and keep the existing consignment and retail shoppers.
Since buying the business, Andrea has been blown away with the community support. After just six months, they have 143 consignors and the schedule has remained full with new items coming in. People are drawn in by the remodel and to see how things work.
2nd Chance offers clothing for women, men, and children as well as shoes, jewelry, and home goods. They take consignment by appointment. This allows Andrea to control the quality of items coming in. She is noticing that men are stopping in looking for clothes for family pictures or special events and she would like to grow in that area.
When asked about the trends she is seeing, Andrea shares “Honestly, right now fashion is at such a sweet spot for someone who enjoys thrifting/consignment shopping. Nearly everything that has been in style in the past is in style now. It’s crazy, but great for us.”
As a Morris Area Chamber member, 2nd Chance Boutique has benefited from the retail promotional events and the advertising that is included with events. “As a small business without a huge advertising budget, it’s great to be able to participate in Chamber retail events to get discounted rates for advertising when we participate,” said Andrea.
