SUMMARY:Morris Community Meals
DESCRIPTION:Sharing food is a key way to build community. Morris Community Meals are free meals served to anyone who wants to come. Regional businesses and organizations fund the meal\, and students\, faculty\, staff\, and community members cook together and share a meal. Morris Community Meal uses local foods and sustainable practices as much as possible\, and strives to share food from a variety of cultures. Gluten-free and vegan meals are always available. Anyone can get involved as a co-sponsor\, volunteer\, or attendee! \nSeptember’s Meal will be held from 5:30-7:30p on Monday\, September 30th at First Lutheran Church\, 200 E. 5th Street\, in Morris. Volunteer shifts are available from 2-9 p.m. on Sunday\, September 29th and Monday\, September 30th. Volunteers will help wash and cut vegetables\, prepare dishes\, make desserts and set up\, serve\, and clean up\, depending on the shift.

DESCRIPTION:Giving back to the community continues! Join the Office of Community Engagement as we visit 5 Morris City Parks to pick up trash and wipe down picnic tables where needed. The event will take place on Saturday\, September 14th from 1-4 PM.  Meet at the Welcome Center on the university campus for provided transportation. \nWe will spend approximately 20-30 mins (or less if needs are minimal) at each park. We will visit them starting with Kjenstad on West 4th St\, second stop is Thedin off the Lyndale Ave Alley\, third stop is Wells located between Nevada Ave and Pacific Ave\, fourth stop is Green River located Elm St and Green River Rd\, and last stop East Side on East 7th St. \nThis project is outdoors and will be pushed back to Sunday\, September 15th if inclement weather occurs. DESCRIPTION:Come learn more about the Stevens County Community Garden on Friday\, September 6th. The garden is located behind Horizon Public Health\, on the frontage road by Subway. The event will start at 5PM and go until 8PM\, and all are welcome to attend. Free produce will be ready for harvest\, and the Mi Mexico Food Truck will be available for people to purchase food. Free activities will include painting pots and transplanting marigold flowers\, coloring sheets\, and plenty of the garden and herb garden to explore. A tour and more additional opportunities will be available throughout the event to learn more about the garden.  The Morris Transit will be free as well for rides to and from the garden during the event.

DESCRIPTION:Building on work done in 2022/23\, the Listening to Oral Histories of West Central Minnesota IAS Collaborative will be launching 3 oral history projects this fall and spring\, and we need your input!  \nJoin us for our kick-off meeting on Saturday\, August 24 from 10:30 AM-1:30 PM at Old No. 1 South Side (lunch provided) to help us determine what the topics of our 3 oral history projects will be. We encourage participation from all members of our community\, including: community members of all ages and backgrounds\, college students\, high school students\, university faculty & staff\, local leaders\, teachers\, elders\, and anyone who considers themselves part of the West Central Minnesota community (not limited to Morris or Stevens County).  \nAt this meeting\, we will brainstorm ideas and come to a decision on 3 oral histories projects we will run this fall and spring. We hope some attendees will be interested in leading or being interviewers for these oral history projects\, but further time investment in the oral history projects is NOT required to attend and provide feedback at our kick-off meeting. No experience is necessary to participate in either the kick-off meeting or the oral history projects.  \nIf you are unable to attend the kick-off meeting\, but would like to provide feedback on possible projects of interest\, or are interested in joining one of the oral history project teams\, please email either Emily Bruce (bruce088@umn.edu) or Naomi Skulan (skulann@morris.umn.edu). SUMMARY:North Central Soil Conservation Research Laboratory Summer Field Day
DESCRIPTION:The North Central Soil Conservation Research Laboratory (Soils Lab) will hold a tour of on-farm research sites and discussions of winter camelina in collaboration with Greg Fynboh\, Forever Green\, and Cargill on Thursday\, June 6.  \nThe USDA-ARS research team will demonstrate how the work they are doing with LTAR (Long Term Agroecological Research) and oil seed crops is being brought to farmer’s fields.  \nThe day begins with coffee at 9 a.m. and a welcome at 9:30.  Buses will depart for the tour at 10 a.m.  Because of limited access to the research site\, participants should plan to take the bus.\nFollowing the tour\, a complimentary lunch will be provided at the Soils Lab following the field tour.\nAt 1 p.m. \, Forever Green will be hosting a farmer panel\, discussion of markets and camelina agronomics\, and offering an additional field tour in the afternoon.\nParticipants will return to the Soils Lab at approximately 3:30 p.m.  \nTours depart from the Soils Lab at 803 Iowa Ave. Morris\, MN 56267.

SUMMARY:Breakfast for Scouting
DESCRIPTION:Scouts have a long-standing policy that any child can be a member regardless of financial income.  Scouting\, as anything\, requires expenses such as uniforms\, registration fees\, campout and summer camp fees.  To help raise much-needed funds for the Northern Lights Council Boy Scouts of America\, we are hosting our second annual Breakfast for Scouting. \nThis fundraising event will showcase and support local Cub Scout and Scouts BSA programs in and around the Alexandria\, MN area\, that include character development\, leadership training\, organizational skills building\, personal responsibility and integrity. \nThe funds raised from this event help offset the costs of providing character development programs\, camps\, trainings and much more to nearly 5\,000 youth in Northern Lights Council. Your contributions help us achieve our mission and provide youth with fun and adventurous opportunities in our community. \nIn addition to generating awareness\, the Breakfast for Scouting helps to finance our programming to support children and young adults in our community.
