SUMMARY:Native American Teach-In
DESCRIPTION:The University of Minnesota Morris will hold a teach-in about the history and impact of Native American boarding schools\, including the ones that operated on our campus site\, on Saturday\, Nov. 18 in Imholte Hall room 109.  \nThe keynote speaker is Sandy White Hawk\, a Sicangu Lakota adoptee from the Rosebud Reservation\, South Dakota. White Hawk is the founder and Director of First Nations Repatriation Institute (FNRI). FNRI’s goal is to create a resource for First Nations people impacted by foster care or adoption to return home\, reconnect\, and reclaim their identity.  The Institute also serves as a resource to enhance the knowledge and skills of practitioners who serve First Nations people. \nOther educational speakers for the event are Gabe Desrosiers\, Anishinaabe; Dorothy Jeffery; and Dennis Jeffy\, Diné \nThe event begins at 8:45 a.m. with a light breakfast\, followed by a blessing and welcome at 9 a.m.\, then first speaker at 9:10 a.m. Following the keynote\, lunch will be served in Oyate Hall. \nFor those unable to attend in person\, the Teach-In will also be available via Zoom.
